Witham welcomed Benfleet for the last league game of the season, determined to finish with a win. But the visitors opened the scoring from a quick penalty.
Witham reacted quickly with the forwards making ground. With a lineout in the Benfleet 22, Witham mauled towards the line for Lea Chesson to score. Daz Chesson slotted the tricky conversion to level the scores at 7 - 7.
The Witham pack continued to dominate and when the ball was released to the backs, Sam Holloway broke through to give Witham the lead. Witham then used a quick penalty for Nathan Frost to score. As the half came to a close, yet another driving maul saw Captain Darren Smith scoring. With another Chesson conversion, Witham led at half time by 24-7.
Benfleet were determined to get back in the game and started the second half strongly. Although Witham couldn't get clear of the 22, the visitors were not allowed through. Some great last ditch tackles by Michael Vidler and Sam Holloway frustrated Benfleet for 20 minutes. Eventually, they did get through and closed the gap in scores. At the restart, Witham attacked. When a penalty was awarded, Chesson kicked to give the final score of 24 - 12.
