Rochford chose to kick off and immediately Witham used the ball to gain territory. A series of rucks saw the home side hog possession until Fiji Dan broke through the defence and looked destined to score. With the full back to beat, he chose to pass to the winger Nick. Unfortunately the pass didn't stick and the chance was gone. A few minutes later, Fiji broke again but this time, he finished it off himself to open the scoring. When Rochford finally got some possession, they showed they had some good ball carriers and made ground. A series of rucks near Witham's line finally saw them cross to level the score. It looked like they'd use the same tactics shortly afterwards but then spun it out wide. They managed to find enough space and an extra man to take the lead with a converted try.
Witham were back on the attack late in the half but a nasty injury to scrum half Lea Chesson forced some changes. Attacking their line, the ball came to John Cox who had moved to fly half. He managed to offload in the tackle to find Ian Mellor. Ian could not be stopped and once his try had been converted by Daz Chesson the scores were level.
The second half was evenly contested with no scores for 20 mins. Finally it was the visitors who re-took the lead with some strong runners breaking from a lineout. Witham had to chase the game and as time was running out and the home side ran out of substitutes, the visitors broke away to extend their lead. This Witham side never gives up and their reward came with the last play of the game. Paul Cole cut back in from the wing and in spite of several defenders trying to halt him, he managed to cross the line to score. Aaron Coombs slotted the conversion to complete a thoroughly entertaining game.
