With all sorts of last minute changes including the referee, this game seemed to change every 5 minutes. Early exchanges were even with the hosts edging possession without a breakthrough. They did manage to open the scoring in a strange way. Josh Twin and John Cox clashed heads as both tackled the same player. As positional changes had to be made, gaps were left and Rochford went ahead. With order restored, Charlie Gibson gave more pace and energy at 10 and immediately scored. Soon afterwards, he found Alex Beer in space. His offload released Sam Holloway to score. Rochford made a few changes of their own and their faster back line turned things around with 2 tries. Then an unfortunate injury to Nathan Frost disrupted things again. But Witham were dangerous in attack and Charlie Gibson scored again to make it 19-19 at half time. A great run by Jack Churchyard on the wing saw Witham take the lead. Although Rochford levelled again, Gibson completed his hatrick of tries to once again take the lead. The Rochford scrum half was making breaks and 2 of these saw the lead gone again. With Rochford ahead and time running out, Witham shifted the ball well. It looked as if Daz Chesson might have the chance to win it but the final pass was not quite right. A last minute breakaway try gave Rochford a flattering scoreline in what was a very even match.
