With both sides short, numbers were evened out and Ian Piper kicked off. Witham spent the next 10 minutes in Burnham territory but just couldn't break through. Burnham managed to eventually get into the Witham half but were soon back in defence again. Several rucks near the hosts line finally saw the scoring opened as Alex Beer bundled over. From the restart, Witham were on the attack again but when Burnham released their speedy backs from their own territory, they were able to escape and level the score. Ryan Logue was being a menace as usual and his unique running style saw him evade several tackles and give Witham the lead again. Late in the half, Burnham used their pack to good effect, creating space for their centre to break and score. With all conversions successful, half time was a stalemate at 14-14.
The second half saw Witham take control. Sam Holloway once again showed how to take the ball at pace to beat defenders. His first try was from 40 meters out but Burnham couldn't get near him. Soon afterwards, Darren Smith gathered an overthrown lineout ball, flicking the ball to stand-in scrum half John Cox, who stepped inside the defenders and slid in low to extend the lead. With Cox getting the conversions, the lead wad 28-14. Ryan Logue extended the lead with anoth bustling run and should have had a hatrick shortly afterwards. But in true jug avoidance style, he dropped the ball a meter short. Burnham got a try back and never looked like a giving up. However, Sam got his second try and new dude Paul Moore surged down the wing to score on his debut. The pitch and weather may have been rubbish but the game was brilliant. Final score 21-45.
Man of the match was Isaac Wenmouth, that young man is a terrier in the rucks.
