Witham kicked off and Brentwood gathered, recycled and went straight onto the attack. Their young backs were fast and soon found room on the outside for their winger to exploit. Within about 15 minutes, they had scored twice and Witham needed to adjust. We did this and held possession for several phases. The game saw a few minutes of possession being lost and regained before Brentwood got their 3rd try. Witham then had a good run of possession. The forwards picked and drived into the Brentwood 22. The maul in the 22 was driven to within 5 metres of the line before Brentwood collapsed it. With so many committed, Witham spun it wide for Charlie Butler to score in the corner. The Witham pack were awesome, winning scrums against the head and giving the Brentwood pack a tough time. Although Brentwood were comfortably ahead by half time, Witham were battling all the way. The second half saw another Witham try. As the pack worked towards the line, Darren Smith surged again but Kevin Hobden took the ball and forced his way over. Rich Miller converted, giving us 12 points. While Brentwood showed why they are top of the table, a hastily assembled Witham team showed that us old boys can still make a game of it.
Man of the match was Kevin Hobden
