With 4 burnham chaps helping us, Witham took on a very young writtle side. Early exchanges showed our power was a threat to them. However, they worked hard to get the ball and when they did, they had the energy to keep tracking across until they found space to hurt us.they racked up 38 points in the first half in spite of some real spirit from our defence. Us old boys were blowing out our arses while their kids were barely puffing. We had few opportunities and the half time chat was about slowing the pace and holding our possesion. At the start of the second half this approach saw us put pressure on their line.surges from Steve Clemence and Darren Smith got us close but writtle were resolute. Darren got pinged for a double movement. But we were still on the attack. Rich Miller fed Terry Burnham Bloke who got just short of the line. I took the ball and got over but too many bodies prevented the grounding. Writtle cleared their lines and it seemed like our chance was gone. But the Mighty Seconds don't give up. Writtle had extended their lead before a couple of penalties got us back in striking range. Chris Jarman and Kevin Hobden were scrapoing for every ball and finally the Burnham number 8 bundled over for our thoroughly deserved try. Writtle had energy to burn and the difference in average age was key to the result. Dave Hollick made a couple of great runs at restarts and one day he'll catch the ball. We've had a few tough away fixtures lately and credit goes to every player- been some real shifts put in. When the going gets tough the M2s just keep going.
