The Mighty Seconds took the train to meet the Steelers and came back with another away win

Witham continued their merit table campaign with another away win. This game saw the return of Rich (Ouch my eye- I'm not playing anymore) Miller and Max (Look what they did to my beautiful face) Basham. In perfect conditions, Witham attacked from the start. As always, we saw the "Rolling Rodney" put to good use with the pack forcing their way into Steelers territory. After Steve Regan was halted on the line, the ball was cleared by Kings Cross. However, Rob Bennett gathered the kick and sprinted down the wing to score. Sadly, the lazy bastard scored in the corner so no conversion. From the restart, charges by Darren (Only asking) Smith and Nathan (ffs) Frost took the visitors close until Josh (sson be back in the 1sts) Taplin was able to break away to score. The conversion by John (I'm the Captain) Cox gave a 12 -0 lead. Kings Cross never gave up and put pressure on our defence. But once we had taken possession, we swiftly made ground. Alex Beer drove over from 5 yards to finish a great phase of possession with a try. Late in the half, Kings Cross broke away and looked odds on to score. Antony Sparky Seymour made it back to help Rob Bennett and Aaron Coombs drive the attackers into touch. However, The Steelers ended up with a scrum 5 metres out and although our pack drove them back, they managed to spin it out wide and scored to give a half time score of 5 -17.
The second half started with such a poor kick off that Aaron Coombs dropped it like a fairy "Oops, sorry boys, I wasn't expecting that". However, he was hitting their backs like a man possessed so we'll let him off. The forwards were dominant and Steelers even tried to go uncontested, but changed their minds. Before long, Rob Bennett had got through again and this time scored under the posts- strangely that was after he'd asked if he could do some kicking. During the game, there had been a few high tackles by both sides. After a bit of a naughty one, the ref warned us to behave. Shortly afterwards, a ball flicked up to one of the Steelers forwards and Tappy drove into him. It was a hard tackle but chest high and not dangerous. However, it was right in front of the supporters who all gasped and called for the ref to act. Tappy had a 10 minute breather during which time the Steelers managed another try. Clearly, Tappy needs the odd rest as when he came back on, he piled through the defence to score. As time ran out, Aaron Coombs, who had swithed to fly half, decided to break through and bag a try for himself. I think it was Alex Beer who got the conversion. Special mention goes to Emma French, who covered 1,562 metres putting us back together, even when some stubborn gits wouldn't listen to her sound advise (sorry lol).
