The team earned this win through hard graft and determination.

This hastily swapped game started with the Kings Cross applying pressure. Deep in our own half, Witham were tackling hard and in spite of a few too many penalties conceding, our line was not breached. Once we did clear our lines and apply some pressure of our own, the Steelers' defence was under pressure. Keith Willmott was trying out life at number 8 and they could not stop him as he picked up from the base of the scrum and surged through the defenders to score. Daz Chesson slotted the conversion for a 7-0 lead. The Steelers restarted and Witham were once again under pressure. After numerous crash balls, they used their backs to get into the corner for an unconverted try. For the next few minutes possession was exchanged and neither side could make a breakthrough. Then came the brightest moment of the match. Kevin Hobden blocked an attempted clearance kick and charged after the loose ball. Beating their young backs to it, he scored his first try in 28 years. Daz converted for a 14-5 lead. Shortly before the break, Lee Bywater found Daz Chesson, who evaded 2 tackles before crossing for a try to give a half time lead of 19-5.
Witham started the second half looking for more points. However, a Steelers counter attack brought them a try to close the gap to 19-10. Russell Emerson made his long awaited debut and his first touch saw him make a 30 yard dash. Once again, Keith Willmott proved too powerful for the defence as he scored in the corner. The next time he broke, he exchanged passes with Ryan Logue and Chris Jarman, with the final pass going to Tom Tiny Ray. Tiny scored and immediately said "how the F did I do that?". Another conversion by Daz took the score to 31-10. Jordan Smee had been switched to centre but a move back into the pack saw him bustle through to score. And in the final play of the game, another pick up by Keith saw him feed Daz on the right. Ade Dines was screaming for the ball on the wing but Daz cut inside to score. Wonder if he realised Ade was actually off the pitch....That try with its conversion completed the match with a well deserved 45-10 win.
