In a hastily re-arranged fixture, Millwall brought a young side that had evidently played together for some time.
Witham started strongly and in fact had the first opportunity when a penalty was awarded in the Millwall half. The Trinnovantes are all about positive rugby, so opted for a kick into the corner. Although the resultant line out did not produce a try, Millwall were having to scramble to get out of their half. When they did so, they had strong runners looking to break the line. The home defence was resolute but eventually the visitors did break through. Witham created a chance shortly afterwards when a chip from John Cox was neatly gathered by Michael Vidler, who made around 40 yards before the defence closed on him. His attempted offload to Rob Bennett fell just short and the chance was gone. The Witham forwards were beginning to dominate the scrums until injuries to Joe Cook and Joe Seager meant some adjustments had to be made and the momentum was lost. Late in the half, Millwall scored again to take a 10-0 lead at half time.
Witham started the second half well, with forward surges led by Doulton Wells and Chris Jarman. However, just a few meters from their line, Millwall managed to steal possession and kicked clear. Shortly afterwards, the visitors extended their lead through a breakaway try. Witham were constantly thwarting Millwall attacks with some great work in the loose from Jordan Smee. As the game neared the end, the younger Millwall team showed their fitness and managed to extend their lead further. But Witham never gave up and when a sortie into Millwall territory brought a penalty, it was time to take some points. Daz Chesson coolly slotted the kick and the match ended with Millwall winning 30 -3.
