Witham hosted a strong East London side and knew they'd need to be on form from the start. However, the start went very badly. A couple of handling errors from the kick off gave the visitors the platform to open the scoring. Witham were still not organised and before long East London exposed gaps in the backs to power through. The day was looking terrible when the score went to 19-0 and Witham had barely had an attack. After about 15 minutes, Witham did attack and a series of runs from Ryan Logue and Joe Seager threatened the London line. However, not only did East London steal the ball but a huge kick from their fly half saw them back in Witham's half. From this, they extended their lead and by half time were 29-0 ahead.
Witham made some changes and came out strongly in the second half. After several attacks of London's line, the visitors kicked clear. John Cox caught the ball and counter attacked. As he crossed half way, he passed to Jordan Smee who broke three tackles as he burst into their 22. East London were desperate to stop the attack and gave away a couple of penalties. After Darren Smith had come close, Lee Bywater dummies to open a gap for himself to score. This was a well earned try and Witham spent the next 10 minutes threatening to close the deficit further. However, mistakes were sneaking in and the Eat London backs made no mistake when they had a chance to break out.
Whilst the result was not good, the determination to make up for a poor start was great.
