Witham U13’s this week traveled 50 mins down the road to play Wanstead U13’s. Due to unavailability Witham only had enough for a team with no substitutes.
The weather was clear but with a strong wind blowing directly down the pitch. Wanstead choose which end to start, with Witham kicking off with the wind. With a very strong start Witham held Wanstead in their own half for sometime, but Wanstead were able to score 3 easy try’s from their biggest players.
Witham responded following a great phase of play with Raigardas Endruzis scoring Witham's first try beating two players to score in the corner. Wanstead having a full bench bought on a load of fresh players including a winger whose speed and size meant Wanstead scored another couple of try’s. Just before the end of the first half Witham were awarded a penalty on the 22. With a quick tap from scrum half Alex Thorne passing to skipper Max Bywater who was able to weave past a couple of defenders to score.
2nd half saw Wanstead rotate their substitutes again leaving Witham still with the same 13 boys who were starting to feel it. This meant Wanstead were able to score another 3 try’s in the early parts of the second half.
In the last 5 minutes Witham seemed to find their second wind and were able to work their way into the Wanstead half. With some great rucking and attacking moves by the boys, Kaden Mayor received a pass and was able to drive through 3 or 4 defenders to score the last try of the game. Wanstead took the win but Witham should be really pleased with the quality of rugby they played.
This weeks player of the week, & big hitter of the week went to Archie Walsh for his huge effort at the break down and in the scrum.
